Noche Buena Baskets for Sendong Victims

Typhoon Sendong hit Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City a week before Christmas. I do not watch the news so I did not actually know how badly they were hit so I was surprised to find out from Twitter how many have died and are still missing after the typhoon.

The Mindanao area rarely has typhoons so it was a surprise to everybody. What made the salutation worse was that the flashfloods happened late the evening when most people are already sleeping so they were caught off guard and unprepared so a lot have died, mostly elderly and children. The death toll rises to more than 1000 already and the numbers are continually increasing.

The office of my friend cooperated with Operation Tulong Bayan to raise funds to distribute Noche Buena baskets to the survivors and the victims. I sent out the information to my friends and I am so happy when I received donations and so even during the busy Christmas season when groceries are full, my husband and I went to Puregold to do grocery shopping not for ourselves, but for the Noche Buena basket that we will donate to Typhoon Sendong victims:

Grocery for Sendong Victims

Thanks Litzie and Aggie for your donations. I am sure in our own little way, the Noche Buena baskets were able to bring a little spark of hope, despite the tragedy to the victims.
